Brickwork Keeps on Giving

It’s not a tremendously long tunnel, this one, but it’s one of the oldest in this city, and a staple of those who frequent such places.  It had been a while since I visited.

I’ve been in here a few times recently, but I usually just stick to the lower twisty brick sections, which are the oldest, and most photogenic.  In fact, I think it had been years since I’d last been all the way to the inflow, despite it not really being that long or arduous a journey.  Not much had changed, just a few more layers on the graffiti, and some more recent dates scrawled on the walls.  The doll is still there, too.

Lens-wise, I’d packed light, taking just the fisheye and the fifty, both of which have their uses underground.  This was more of a social trip, so I didn’t take anything too encumbering.  I’d ventured in with someone new to drain photography, though not entirely new to draining, so conversation tended to revolve around lighting and similar topics.

My companion made the best of things with a small camera with a two-second exposure – it was amusing to see what he managed to achieve with a carefully timed burst from an external flash.  I just did my usual fiddling with torches propped up on uneven brick surfaces, and even brought out the old ping-pong balls again for the first time in ages.

Fun!

the shadow on the top of the oviform in the last photo is clearly the best facet of the execution of any of these photos
