Edison’s Crypt

Sven March 1st, 2010

We all carry camera gear and torches around with us, day-to-day, right?  You never know when an opportunity for poking around strange places might present itself.  A lunch time meandering through the city provided some success…

What luck – a small unlocked door hidden in the bowels of a city office building.  Now, in my defense, the small door said ‘danger: confined space’, not ‘no entry’ or anything along those lines, so I can only presume this is intended for public access, with a friendly health and safety warning to make everyone happy.

Even better, the door opened onto a ladder into a concrete cavity, with mysterious apertures facing each other across the expanse, and leading into dark unknowns.  Happily, someone had installed lighting in the main section, so a flip of a switch made exposures somewhat simpler – let it not be said that photographers are not foremost in the minds of this city’s architects!

So, never fear a dusty suit, there’s always a dry cleaner around the corner.  Whip out that keyring torch, peer through the cracks, open doors and see what’s in there.  You never know what you might find.

Neat find, but I have to say that if I found such a place I would be tempted to stay there, rather than go back to work :)
