Confinement
Sven February 5th, 2010
Who knew this was here? Certainly not me – I wouldn’t have even realised these spaces existed.

Secreted within the confines of another built environment was this somewhat unrefined complex of tunnels and conduits - a parallel fantasy world of rock and concrete interwoven with the real world, and supporting its continued existence. Aspects of the place baffle me, though – things like mystery corridors that go nowhere, and open up into voids.

While this space might not have been apparent from the real world, the opposite was not true. The strain of existence showed constantly in sagging concrete, steel bracing, and the strata of structural repairs. I could almost hear the Architects chiming ‘there is a breach in the fundus of Angels’, if that means anything to anyone.

Back in the real world again afterwards, I looked back, and had to think hard about where I’d been, and reconcile it with the landscape I already knew. It’s easy to forget that things occupy spaces whose existence we overlook.

Hey Sven, man your photos are awesome, always been a huge fan of long exposures. I to live in Brisbane and I shoot rollerblade photos for a few a magazines overseas and I believe you have found some amazing spots that I have been thinking about shooting some skating on. Huge drains and lots of concrete is what I’m always looking for. Any chance you can email me back and we can chat about it, thanks.
