In a city where rusty stuff just doesn’t hang around for long, it’s a bit startling to park, get out of the car, look left and see a decrepit earthmover sitting alone in a field. How could I resist?

Tired Drivers Die – so say the many signs on the rural highways, and they’re undoubtedly correct, to judge by the little sunbleached crosses along the side of the road. I resolved to try to stay alert through the hours of driving I had planned. My excursion started at midnight, and I was headed west.

I’m not sure what originally motivated me to acquire a fisheye lens. I never really thought it would be generally useful; just a special-purpose lens with occasional application. It’s turned out to be more useful than I thought it could be, and in many of the images for which I’ve used it, the fact that the fisheye was used is not necessarily even apparent. That said, the shots in this particular post are all pretty obvious.

I’ve come to something of a crossroads, photographically. Sometimes, the only way to achieve something new, creatively, is to take a different direction entirely. I’ve decided to move away from the fairly static, nocturnal scenes I’ve tended to favour in the past, and try something new: pets. I may register PetExposure.net.
