Coal Man

For years, I drove the highway here, past the little brick house, and wondered what exactly it was.  A little crumbling building, surrounded by ever-larger trees, seemingly completely neglected, except by passing vandals and photographers.  Now, Jon and I had visited before – I’d even been during the daytime – and we’d dismissed the location as fairly uninteresting.  I still held out hope, though, and so we visited again.

Random Lives

I visited the Magic Millions race day on the Gold Coast recently, and despite competitive horsey-runs not really being my kind of thing, I still found it interesting.  The crowds!  So many people in the blistering heat of the day.  Moving through the crowds involved small shuffling steps and much patience.  Unless, of course you were the group of sunglassed police, who just seemed to sail through through the crowds unimpeded.  Or, the caterer, sweating profusely and barging his trolley through the masses.  Somehow, those who have to get through to do their thing, seem to get through.
