Under the cover of daylight, we snuck silently into this aging military structure, stopping only to pay the admission fee. Bunkers and gun emplacements built into grassy mounds on the Brisbane River – who’d have thought it?

Once known as the HMQS Gayandah, this wreck is slowly, but very surely, being ground down by the elements. We stopped by to see how things were progressing.

Despite ongoing conversation, we still don’t actually know the difference between being shivved and being shanked. Obviously, avoiding either is preferable, and thankfully we finished the evening relatively stab-free. Still able to see in normal colour, though, that’s a different story.

My plan for the evening was to make things colourful. With a magic bag of filtered LED torches and lighting gels, I contemplated the fact that Jon and I hadn’t really decided on a set destination, but figured that no matter where we ended up, I could bathe something in a garish multicoloured glow…

What is this, you ask, a double version of the Sales-Maker pump? Yes, that’s right, sitting on a rural road are a pair of old double Gilbarcos, slowly rusting beneath a corroded classic BP shield sign.
